Plenty of family fun slated for Upper Darby libraries this weekend

It can be difficult to keep children entertained, and as they become teens the uphill battle becomes all the more challenging. Thankfully, the Delaware County Libraries, there are plenty of fun events for those of all ages. (Yes, even in those terrible teen years.)

This Friday, Dec. 12, those in grades six through 12 are welcome to attend Teen Movie Night at the Sellers Memorial Branch in Upper Darby Township. The Sellers Memorial Teen Advisory Board will host a cookie decorating along with a cozy movie viewing.

The event is indoors, and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the movie beginning at 7 p.m. There will be no admittance after the movie has begun. Registration is required to attend. To register, please call Rachee at 510-789-4440 or email [email protected] for more information. Those with allergies are also asked to disclose details at registration.

You can also register online here for the movie night. But the fun doesn’t stop with the teens.

A free craft experience is also scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13 for those in preschool through grades five. New kits are available while supplies last. The event will also take place at Sellers Memorial Branch. Visit the Children’s Room for your project on this Take and Make Craft Kit date.

If you do have an 11th or 12th grade student who is curious about college, you’re in luck once more as the Upper Darby municipal branch will offer “Camp College” on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Programming Room. Juniors and seniors are welcome to attend this informational session to discuss how college applications work.

“Get a jump start on applying to college,” said the library’s website. “This year-long program will include creating a college list, making a good impression, financing your education, meeting with college representatives, and more.”

Registration can be completed online here. Registration is required. Camp College is created by the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC).

With one more opportunity for family fun this weekend, the Sellers Memorial Branch will host a Family Cookie Decorating event from 2 to 4 p.m. Again hosted by the Teen Advisory Board, all ages are welcome this time for a drop-in cookie decorating session, complete with crafts and activities. Registration is required. The event will take place in the Adult Library.

The Upper Darby Municipal Branch is located at 510 Bywood Ave., in Upper Darby. The Sellers Memorial Branch is located at 76 S. State St. in Upper Darby Township. To stay informed about the library’s activities at all branches, visit https://www.delcolibraries.org/events
