The Upper Darby Fire Department welcomes two new members
Upper Darby Mayor Ed Brown swore in Seth Levine and Matthew Goldschmidt as probationary firefighters on Friday, March 13.
The duo completed the Harrisburg Area Community College Career Fire Academy. Their training was 19 weeks long and included physical training with a mandatory 1.5-mile run in 12 minutes. Some of the certifications they received are: National Registry EMT, FF 1, FF2, Hazardous Materials, Vehicle Rescue Technician, Engine and Ladder Driver, Ropes and Rigging, and Firefighter Rescue and Survival.
Levine is a graduate of Harriton High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has served in the United States Marine Corps since 2016 and received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Matthew Goldschmidt is a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School and Delaware County Community College. He previously worked as a police officer in the Township of Chester and as a volunteer firefighter in Upper Darby. He has served in the United States Air Force since 2003 and received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and was deployed in support of Iraqi Freedom.
The probationary firefighters will complete internal department training prior to being assigned to work at one of the career-staffed fire companies.
