Where’s the beef? Upper Darby police probe meat thefts
Police in Upper Darby are investigating the theft of $80,000 worth of meat from an industrial area.
In a video released of the latest in what police say are a related series of three thefts, five cars pulled up behind a tractor-trailer at about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 5 in front of Philly’s Best Steak Company. Several people then got out to unload boxes of meat into the vehicles, per news reports.
That incident netted $30,000 worth of stolen goods, but the three incidents combined allowed thieves to make off with meat valued at $80,000 wholesale. Police said drivers of the tractor-trailers in each case were asleep in their cabs before waking up to find their trucks broken into.
Police also reportedly said that they believe the thieves are selling the stolen beef to small restaurants at a discount.
