UDPD arrest man they say was burning pallets behind AT&T

Upper Darby Police took a 50-year-old Philadelphia man into custody on Jan. 4 for allegedly setting fire to wooden pallets behind a store on the rear of 117 69th Street.

The fire was close to the rear of the AT&T store, police said. Mitchell allegedly admitted that he was the person who set the fire and was adding fuel to the flames when officers spoke to him at 7:30 a.m.

Robert “Robert Fats” Mitchell also allegedly gave police officers the false name Angelo Micho when they spoke with him, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Mitchell was charged with dangerous burning and giving a false identification to law enforcement, and criminal mischief, records showed. He was also wanted by authorities in Bucks County and Burlington County, New Jersey, according to court papers.  He had been in custody in the Delaware County prison but was transferred to another facility, according to records.

The case, originally before District Justice Harry Karapalides, was assigned to Common Pleas Judge Kevin Kelly.
