Utility project will close part of State Road in Upper Darby
Delaware County drivers, be warned: Part of State Road that runs through Upper Darby Township will soon be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each weekday for utility work.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said on Feb. 11 that the travel restriction will begin on Feb. 27 and conclude on July 31. During that time, State Road will be closed on weekdays between Lansdowne Avenue and Hilltop Road while Aqua Pennsylvania performs a water-main replacement.
Aqua Pennsylvania told Fideri News Network that the $1.6 million project will replace 3,000 feet of aging 6-inch cement water main with a new 12-inch ductile iron water main.
While PennDOT said local access to that stretch of road will be maintained, all other traffic will be directed to use Lansdowne Avenue, U.S. 1 (Township Line Road) and Route 3 (West Chester Pike). Drivers are also advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays may occur.
