UDPD celebrates colleague’s big day

It isn’t every day your co-worker turns 5!

With a beautifully sunny day, one important member of the Upper Darby Police Department was celebrated this past weekend as he enjoyed his birthday. He may only be 5, but that’s around 35 in people years.

The favorite furry friend of the UPPD, the K9 Radar celebrated his big birthday this weekend with many of his best pals. Those with two and four legs were in attendance to honor the dutiful pup with a walk and party.

“Radar is a mixed Labrador-golden retriever, mix facility assistance dog for the Upper Darby Police Department,” said the department via a recent Facebook post. “He is partnered with his best friend, Officer Anthony Bateman.”

Radar has many roles with the department, so folks came from near and far to enjoy his celebration.

“Radar is a community-focused K9 who helps comfort victims and witnesses while fostering positive police-community relations,” said the department. Events like “Walk with Radar,” which was created for his special birthday, help to bring people together.

“Cupcakes in his likeness were had, and many of Radar’s friends came out to celebrate him,” said the department’s post. “We’re told from very close sources that Radar had a great time, and he thanks everyone for making his day so special!”
