All ages welcome to create light-up jellyfish for Winter Lights Parade with Left of Lansdowne

Uniting community, winter, and the holiday spirit, the neighborhoods in and around Lansdowne Borough are working together to present the Winter Lights Parade. Slated for Dec. 13, the gathering will be an opportunity to walk with fellow residents with a 15-minute walk from Greenwood to downtown Lansdowne.

The event is hosted by “Left of Lansdowne” (LOL), a community organization open to all.

“Left of Lansdowne is a place for folks who want to feel part of a broader, non-political party-affiliated progressive community,” explained Nathaniel Miller, a member of LOL. “We engage in community discussions, celebrations, and when occasionally necessary agitation.”

The organization is inviting all to take part in the Winter Lights Parade. To get into the spirit of the event, LOL is also hosting a crafting event to prepare light-up jellyfish to carry in the parade.

“We will walk as a group in the parade with our creations under the theme ‘We glow brighter together,’” said Giulia Pi, via a recent Facebook post, who noted the the crafting gathering is a great way to “meet your neighbors.”

On Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., LOL will host the crafting of the jellyfish at The Bany Room in the Lansdowne Public Library.

“Just drop in any time,” said Pi. “It’s not a structured activity, so come whenever works for you.”

The crafting session is free to those interested, and all of the project’s supplies will be provided.

“Join us for a fun morning of crafting in the name of community-building,” said Pi. “All ages [are] welcome. The craft will be easy and kid-friendly, and open-ended too so the sky is the limit!”

A variety of examples will be available along with the crafting supplies, lights, and glow sticks to add to your jellyfish creation.
