Black History Month event to feature storytelling, live drums, song

There are many ways to celebrate the cultures, stories, and histories of our people. During Black History Month, we focus on the experiences of the black community. A special event slated for later this February intends to do just that with a unique celebration.

“Celebrate our black history legacy through song, drumming, and stories,” explained a flyer for the event coming up at the Upper Darby Senior Center. “Join us for an interactive cultural experience of rhythm, music, and storytelling.”

The event, slated for Wednesday, Feb. 25 at noon will feature Karen Smith, of Karen Smith Drums. It will include live drumming, song and rhythm, cultural storytelling, community participation, and unique experiences. The event is said to have an ” uplifting and community-centered atmosphere.”

“Experience the power of heritage, music, and shared history in an uplifting and engaging performance,” said the flyer, posted on the Upper Darby Township’s Facebook page.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Upper Darby Senior Center, 326 Watkins Ave., Upper Darby.
