Delco skating rink and Winter Village glides into Newtown Square
From decorated fir trees, to the glow of holiday lights, the sights and sounds of the season are in full swing in Delaware County. One of the highlights for many families is the picturesque scenes of an ice skating rink.
One of the winter’s biggest attractions in Delaware County this year will be the award-winning Energy Transfer Veterans Memorial Rink which returns to Newtown Square through Feb. 1, 2026. And a visit to the rink isn’t just about the family fun, warming memories, and enjoyable recreation. The entire project also helps to support community programs for Veterans.
“This year, $75,000 will be donated to Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association (DCVMA), bringing the total since this attraction opened to $225,000,” said Kory Aversa of Aversa PR. “This year, Flight On Ice promises to create an even more captivating winter wonderland. Patrons can look forward to an array of family-friendly fun, including a kids zone with moon bounces courtesy of One Stop Party Shop, spacious heated tents for comfort, a large LED TV Display, cozy fire pits to enjoy your S’mores, open-air gazebos, and much more.”
If the skating and bouncing gets you hungry, you’ll be in luck. The facilities also offer a variety of snacks.
“You can also expect a selection of food and refreshments covering all the basics, including nachos, pretzels, popcorn, candy, coffee, and hot chocolate,” said Aversa.
Some of the season’s highlights will include:
- Eagles Autism Event – Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m.
- Santa Arriving on Firetruck Courtesy of Edgmont Fire Company, Photos with Santa – Dec. 18 – 5 p.m. arrival
- New Year’s Eve – Dec. 31 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Noon Years Eve (NYE party for kids) – Dec. 31, noon to 5 p.m.
- New Year’s Day Skate – noon to 9 p.m.
- MLK Jr. Day – noon to 6 p.m.
The rink’s family-friendly concept has “captured the hearts of Delco residents,” according to Aversa, since 2021, and it is made possible by the support of sponsors like Energy Transfer, Visit Delco, and numerous others.
“We are thrilled to announce that the Energy Transfer Veterans Memorial Rink will once again be open for skating this season,” said Joe McGinn, Vice President of Public Affairs at Energy Transfer. “Being part of the Edgmont and Newtown Square community is something we deeply value, and supporting both the rink and the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association (DCVMA) is a natural fit. We are fully committed to this project and hope our generosity inspires others to join us in providing the financial support needed to keep this amazing tradition alive.”
The ice skating rink is made possible thanks to its sponsors, which includes Energy Transfer. Energy Transfer has pledged another $75,000 to be paid directly to the DCVMA this year, bringing the grand total over $225,000 donated to the DCVMA since 2021.
“The DCVMA uses these funds to support the needs of our local veterans and helps maintain the Veterans Memorial site just a few short blocks from the rink,” said Aversa.
Another sponsor, Visit Delco, is also happy to be involved. Its director said that the ice rink brings in more than families to the rink.
“Flight On Ice not only delivers holiday magic but also drives meaningful economic activity to local restaurants, shops, and attractions,” said Steve Byrne, Executive Director at Visit Delco, “It’s the kind of signature experience that highlights what makes Delaware County such a special destination—authentic community, local pride, and unforgettable memories. We encourage other local businesses to support this project to keep this Delco tradition alive for years to come.”
The Energy Transfer Veterans Memorial Rink is located at 4901 West Chester Pike, adjoining the Shoppes at Marville, and right next door to Starbucks and the Bonefish Grill. Flight on Ice’s winter attraction debuted in 2021 and has quickly become “a beloved fixture in the community.”
This year, Flight On Ice “promises to create an even more captivating winter wonderland,” according to Aversa. Jon Schaffer, President of Flight Entertainment, also shared his enthusiasm for another season.
“When we started this venture back in 2021 we couldn’t have imagined the popularity that we have gained in three short years,” said Schaffer. “We are excited about opening for another season and our future prospects as we are in continued discussions to keep our rink in Delco for many years to come.”
Events such as the rink’s annual Tree Lighting, an Eagles Autism Skate, Santa on a Firetruck, and a Kids’ Noon Years Eve Party on Dec. 31, just to name a few, are sure to entertain those of all ages. Visitors can be sure to track official events online with the rink’s calendar at flightonice.com.
In the spirit of giving back, a portion of proceeds generated during this season will once again be donated to support the DCVMA.
“We are committed to carrying out the DCVMA’s mission of educating and inspiring our youth on the liberties made accessible to us by those who served this great country,” said Schaffer. “This season, once again, we are counting on the local community and our sponsors for their continued support to keep our dream alive.”
