‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ tickles funny bones in Aldan
For some local theatergoers, “The Play That Goes Wrong” was the right choice for a hilarious good time.
The comedic play, which is being performed at the Colonial Playhouse in Aldan through March 22, chronicles the ill-fated opening night of the fictional Cornley University Drama Society’s newest production, “The Murder at Haversham Manor.”
“This 1920s whodunit has everything you never wanted in a show — an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines),” stated the show description online. “The Play That Goes Wrong” is also described as “part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes.”
Tickets for the show cost $17 for 8 p.m. showings on Fridays and Saturdays, or $15 for 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays. There is also a $1 service fee for online ticket purchases.
Showings began on March 6, and so far, the play has received rave reviews from at least two commenters on social media. Marie-Luise Faber wrote on Facebook after seeing the play that the actors were “wonderful” and provided “almost 2 hours of nonstop laughter.” And Antoinette DiCrecchio wrote: “Absolutely the funniest show ever. We laughed constantly. The actors were amazing. Don’t miss this show.”
