67-year-old George W. Hill inmate found with smuggled PCP, county says
A 67-year-old Chester man has been charged with possessing PCP in the Delaware County prison.
On Tuesday, Michael A. Griffin was charged with possession of contraband and possession of a controlled substance by the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division.
Court records indicate Griffin is in the facility awaiting court action on an attempted- murder charge from July in Chester.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Det. Michele Derry:
On Oct. 14, an organized search of Griffin’s cell, unit 10B was conducted by prison staff at the George W. Hill Correction Facility. Griffin has been the only occupant of unit 10B since Aug. 15.
During the search, a roll of toilet paper was removed from the holder embedded on the side of the toilet. Concealed within the paper was folded plastic wrap containing torn pieces of paper that appeared to be contraband.
The evidence was submitted to the Pennsylvania State Police Crime lab for evaluation. On Dec. 3, the lab confirmed the evidence contained PCP, a scheduled II controlled substance.
It’s the latest installment in the parade of weapons and drugs found in the prison.
