BB.Q Chicken leaves them guessing

The Korean chicken restaurant closed suddenly, owners explain

It’s always sad when a favorite restaurant closes.

Recently, the BB.Q Chicken Media, located at 1015 E Baltimore Pike, served its last tasty meal, leaving some regulars wondering what happened.

They even took to Facebook to ask and to air their thoughts.

“I didn’t know anything about this until yesterday, after I finally noticed they were not operational, and went digging for information,” Ed Ruder wrote on Facebook.

”Their location, near the Route 352 and Route 1 Cloverleaf is difficult and risky to get in and out of, due to the often steady stream of highway-speed traffic,” added Ruder. “From time to time I picked up DoorDash orders there. Never once did they say the business wasn’t meeting expectations or they were thinking of shutting down. And they did have a fan base. So I am quite surprised with the sudden closure.”

Fans wondered if the space might return in the coming months.

“The [restaurant’s]Yelp page says they will reopen at the end of May,” said Ruder I am skeptical about that.”

The instant closure left many with questions.

“There is no posted explanation on the front door,” he said. “Inside, it appears nothing has been removed.”

Bruce Adams, a Brookhaven resident, wrote on Facebook, “Horrible location near the cloverleaf. That cloverleaf is extremely dangerous as constructed and is just an accident waiting to happen.”

Others agreed.

“Nothing ever lasts long there,” said Kelly Donohue Naylor.

Eric Johnson of Media also chimed in, noting the location has seen many past owners with a wide variety of history.

“Drive by there every day,” Johnson said. “Cursed location. In the 90s, I worked at Kiss then Y100. It was a gas station owned by Mauger. I’d wander over for snacks. In the 2000s, it was Philly Pretzel Factory and that was there for a while. I miss it being there. I stopped often. Then vacant, then the bagel place then the current chicken spot-with lots of vacant time in between. (Other business there too that were there so short I can’t recall?) Yeah, bad location for sure.”

Rena Bazis said, via Facebook, “Their chicken is excellent! We drove by yesterday, and saw that it looked closed and empty. I was happy to see on yelp that they are reopening in a couple months. I thought maybe they traveled home or illness, which if so, hopefully they are doing ok. We seriously love their Korean fried chicken.”.

MediaPA Now asked the owners directly what happened.

“We are permanently closed. We have labor shortage and not enough sale to make profits,” said Zun Lin, the location’s owner.
