Lansdowne police say a sad farewell to one of its own: Bogi, the K-9 partner of Sgt. Miller

The Lansdowne police shared incredibly sad news last week, as they lost one of their own.
“It is with tremendous sadness that the Lansdowne Borough Police Department announces the passing of canine Bogi,” said the department on Facebook. “He crossed the rainbow bridge [Thursday] with his handler, partner and best friend Sgt. Michael Miller by his side at the age of 14.”
The police said the duo was inseparable.
“The pair were a package deal when both transferred from the Amtrak Police Department to Lansdowne in 2019,” said the post. “A German Short Haired Pointer by birth, Bogi’s police training focused on explosives detection.”
This member of the department was not just loved internally, but throughout the community, as well.
“While he was most certainly adept at sniffing out’ things that go boom,’ Bogi quickly found in Lansdowne that his specialty was making hearts melt,” said the department’s post. “Bogi was popular with residents from one side of the Borough to the other, particularly our young people. He shined in school demonstrations and our annual National Night Out where he delighted folks from all around.”
While they appreciate Miller’s service, he was often asked for his “partner” if unaccompanied.
“Hardly a day went by without Sgt. Miller being asked, ‘where’s Bogi?’” said the department.
Like all police, Bogi worked hard in his 14 years, and he will be missed by many.
“Police work takes its toll on dogs, just as it does humans. Sadly, age and sickness caught up with Bogi,” said the department. “He was sent off [Thursday] with a salute from officers around the county and beyond.”
Bogi will be remembered fondly by the community and the department.
“There are a lot of good boys out there,” said the department’s post. “Bogi was definitely our best boy.”
